UCD is preparing to become a "Health- Promoting University" and began this process with a consultation event on the 7th Oct. The event consisted of speakers in the morning, followed by facilitated dialogue and finishing with a plenary. The organisers wanted paper graphic recording but we were not permitted to stick any paper ANYWHERE in the venue. Instead, UCD proposed using an A3 camera. It worked fantastically and I will definitely do it again. I was also involved in creating digital illustrations for the events including slides and a detailed visualisation of an Audit of existing Health initiatives within the university.

I'm so excited to share this little animated video that I made recently with Graham Seely of Gansee Films for my old employer IDEA. The video supports their campaign to promote Social and Solidarity Economy. You can learn all about it and support them here: https://www.facebook.com/challengingthecrisis Some behind-the-scenes shots below.... Since the beginning of September I have been accompanying the public engagement team of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission as they travel around Ireland asking the people of Ireland to Have Their Say on the Commission's first ever Strategy. At each event I have a short time to capture the passions and insights of those who attend. At the time of posting we have 2 more events to complete- Sligo and Letterkenny. In the images above you can see samples of the graphic recording from Limerick, Galway, Cork, Waterford, Longford and Dublin. Find out more at www.ihrec.ie or search for the hashtag #HaveYourSayIHREC.
Some live snaps of a World Café hosted by UCD Learning and Development for UCD's IT services, exploring how they might improve the way they communicate with customers.
On May 25th I attended part of the first weekend of an innovative new course run in Co. Wicklow by Suzie Cahn of Carraig Dúlra and Jennifer Dungan of Common Ground, Bray. The course, funded by the Wheel, aims to equip participants with skills in leadership, facilitation and collaboration as well as a deep understanding of our connection to nature and the skills we need to live sustainably. I was harvesting the participant's feedback on their experience of Weekend One.
I was delighted to be at the final of Concern's Schools Debates programme again this year. It always reminds me how AWESOME Ireland's young people are and that the next generation, though they face many challenges created by us, are smart, caring and optimistic. I was on stage at the Helix with the young debaters, desperately trying to keep up with their rapid-fire rebuttals and passionate polemics. In the end the team proposing the motion "The European Union is Failing Africa" won out. What do you think?
Smart phones, smart economies and now- smart businesses and smart WALLS. Smarter Surfaces manufacture a paint that allows you to create a whiteboard on any smooth surface. I spent a day doodling on behalf of Think Visual on their smart wall last week at the Smart Business Show at the RDS, where they were exhibiting. I have to admit, my experience of drawing on whiteboards and smart walls has been underwhelming to date but I REALLY enjoyed working on their walls. This is a well-priced product and works perfectly if properly applied with a ten year guarantee. AND it is made in Ireland. Just leave some money in your budget for good markers and an effective cleaner.
More talking about Climate Change? Yes. But this is different. Climate Conversations is a series of dialogues aiming to bring everyone, from every background together to act positively towards the transition we all know is coming. It is organised by a multi-stakeholder group comprising IBEC, ICTU, Christian Aid, Trócaire and the Environmental Pillar under the platform "Climate Gathering". There are 5 FREE events over 2 months. The first event, "Communicating the Challenge" took place on March 18th in Liberty Hall, with a stirring opening by David Begg (formerly) of ICTU. Each event will have artists, musicians and unique perspectives on the issue. Join the conversation at #climateconversations and get your tickets here.
I am doing digital graphic recording for the event, including some graphic tweets- see below. On March 6th I was asked to visually record the outcomes of a World Café hosted at UCD for Early Career Researchers. This was the final session of a 2-day event aimed at supporting researchers to be entrepreneurial and innovative. Thank you to UCD Research for the images. In February this year I travelled to Brussels to graphically record a conference on Good Food and Good Farming, a mobilisation around reform of the European Common Agricultural Policy, to deliver better results for the environment, rural communities and consumers. It was a fascinating 2 days and a crucial topic- food is something that connects every issue. The conference was organised by a European Platform called Arc2020, learn more about their work to reform the CAP here. |
